Moniker: Who is File Under M?
The name File Under M is the result, we suspect, of too much time
studying categorization schemes. Both founders, Mirjana
Risek and
Marsha Plat, started out
as information designers at the phenomenal
Vivid Studios where they designed some of the first commercial
websites in the early 1990s. In 2000, they joined together to create
a boutique web-design shop in San Francisco. File Under M's clients
include large companies such as Charles Schwab and smaller start-ups
such as Snapfish.
In 2001, File Under M moved to the the Boston area and continues
to provide custom solutions for a variety of clients from small
venture capital firms to long-term high-tech clients such as Ember
Corporation.
Marsha Plat, Principal
Before joining File Under M, Marsha enjoyed the early days (and
long nights) of the burgeoning web industry at a medium-sized design
shop in San Francisco called Vivid Studios (later acquired by Modem
Media). Vivid was led by the well-known and wonderful designer, Nathan
Shedroff. At Vivid, she worked with a number of clients including
American Century and Kodak while also collaborating on our design
methodology. She explored (and tried out) various methodologies from
the waterfall model to the spiral development model and eventually
developed something between the two that could be adapted for each
project’s needs.
Rapid prototyping and user testing were parts of the eventual mix.
